Redlicki and Rubin Named Top Seeds in 18s Doubles, to Face Paul Oosterbaan and Grand Slam Champion Mark Knowles in Opening Night Exhibition

Martin Redlicki and Paul Oosterbaan won the USTA gold ball in doubles at the 18s Clay Courts last month, but for Friday's opening exhibition at Kalamazoo College's Stowe Stadium, they will be on opposite sides of the net.

Redlicki, whose brother Michael won the 18s doubles title last year, and Noah Rubin are the top seeds in the 18s doubles draw, a position that puts them into the exhibition that traditionally kicks of the USTA Boys 16 and 18 National Championships. Usually two recently retired professionals are the juniors' opponents, but this year the combination is different, with local junior Oosterbaan partnering four-time Grand Slam doubles champion Mark Knowles of the Bahamas.

Knowles, who retired in 2012 (but came back for a last grand slam appearance at this year's Wimbledon), won the Australian, French and US Opens, all with Daniel Nestor of Canada, and won the Wimbledon mixed title with Anna-Lena Groenefeld. He is a former UCLA Bruin, but did not play in Kalamazoo as a junior.

For more on Knowles and Oosterbaan, see Pam Shebest's recent article for the Kalamazoo Gazette.

The 18s doubles seeds:

1. Martin Redlicki and Noah Rubin
2. Luca Corinteli and Stefan Kozlov
3. Paul Oosterbaan and Ronnie Schneider
4. Henry Craig and George Goldhoff
5. Mackenzie McDonald and TJ Pura
6. Gage Brymer and Elliott Orkin
7. Robbie Bellamy and Joseph DiGiulio
8. Daniel Kerznerman and Henrik Wiersholm

10. Mitch Stewart and Collin Altamirano
11. Gregory Garcia and Tyler Lu
12. Miguel Alda and Benjamin Donovan
13. Matthew Mendez and Trey Yates
14. AJ Catanzariti and Thomas Mayronne
15. Terrance Whitehurst and Terrell Whitehurst
16. Jared Donaldson and Connor Farren

The 18s doubles draw is available at the tournament website.

Friday will feature the first round of 18s singles and two rounds of 18s doubles, if the weather cooperates. Rain is in the forecast. The exhibition is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday.

Match times for singles and doubles have been posted at ustaboys.com via a pdf found by clicking the middle blue button at the top of the home page.
